There, i said it. A few years ago, i admitted this fact to many liberal friends of mine, much to their dismay. Although my leftward lean is at a much more obtuse angle than it was 3 years ago, it doesn't change the fact i would love to shag that bag-o-bones neo-con twit to near death.
I speak of this, only because i recently watched the documentary (really a 36-minute Ann Coulter commerical) Is It True What They Say About Ann? and i'd almost forgotten how deliciously wrong my attraction to her is.
Ann is a sick, evil woman, so the H.F. factor must be the driving force.

Michael Brown, the head of FEMA at the time of the Katrina fiasco, has been essentially fired in the wake of his organization's disasterous response to the very type of disaster FEMA was set up to respond to. Funny, didn't Dubya say he was doin' "a heck of a job?" Can Bush be wrong?
In addition, there are reports that the White House exaggerated and padded his field experience and academic record.
I guess that's why he was "relieved" instead of "fired." I'm sure the only relieved people are those who are currently residing in the next hurricane target area.

The picture i have displayed is a cartoon that my friend and former colleague, Shane Crerar, drew for me for my previous blog incarnation.
I am commenting on it only to say that, hopefully, it will stop looking like me by the end of this academic year. No, i'm not going for laser hair growth (by the way, how is it lasers can both grow hair and remove it?). I'm on a bit of a lifestyle/diet change that, so far, has seen me drop 4 lbs in the past 22 days. Not bad, considering the only exercise i've incorporated so far has been to not take the elevator to my 5th floor office. I'll keep y'all posted, and i might have to ask Mr.(soon-to-be-Dr.) Crerar to redraw my avatar.

George Bush's response to hurricane Katrina was, as we all know, abysmal. So today, he pledged $2000/person as immediate relief, and declared tomorrow as a "prayer day" for the victims. Prayer day? Can the victims drink and/or eat all these "prayers"? Can prayers save the hundreds or thousands that could get sick from the E. coli that is in the waters of New Orleans? Will prayer cure the dysentary that some of the relief workers, victims and Sean Penn might contract?

The Red Cross has also given $2 grand per person in the form of MasterCard debit cards, but Red Cross workers didn't take 4 days to get to the Gulf Region (like Bush, Jr. did). And where was Dick Cheney? Oh yeah, he was probably busy negotiating the New Orleans rebuliding contracts with Haliburton.

[my quasi-tongue-in-cheek comment about Cheney and Haliburton was also echoed by Maureen Dowd, though i didn't read her column until after i published this post]

Walking Tall, and Stupidly

I've been back on a student-populated post-secondary campus for nearly two full days now, and i've noticed a few pain-of-death offenses that people (not necessarily college students) do that really piss me off:

walking. Yes, walking. People, we drive on the right side of the road, so walk that way, okay?!?!? Some dumbasses might comment "but a lot of people take the bus and/or cycle in Vancouver, so they don't drive at all." You're an idiot, imaginary person!! Buses drive on the right-hand side, and any cyclist who knows what they're doing does the same.

smoking. I'm astounded at the number of college kids who still smoke these days. It doesn't really bother me, it's just an observation.

ask directions. Since i became an educator, i get asked almost daily where some building or some prof's office is. Then i get the look of scorn when i (being a newcomer to this campus) don't know the answer.

walking side-by-side. In narrow pathways, when someone is coming opposite you, move over!

That's it for now. I'm sure i'll have more later. For now, i'm off to mold (or is it mould) young minds.

Sorry for the lack of originality in my template choice. Maybe i'll change it one day, but for now simple is best.
